From Battlefield to Breakthrough: KordUSA’s RACU Technology Secures U.S. Army Contract

47G member KordUSA, a member of the Kord Group of companies (Kord), has been awarded an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) to provide its revolutionary Rifle Accessory Control Unit (RACU) System Technology for evaluation by the U.S. Army as the Common Remote for the Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW). The contract, worth up to $7 million, was awarded through the EDITS Program, which helps equip U.S. Army soldiers with advanced technology, including support for PEO Soldier, the Army’s program focused on improving gear and equipment for troops.

The RACU technology is a force multiplier, allowing soldiers to seamlessly manage multiple weapon-mounted and body-worn electronic devices while keeping their eyes on target and hands on their weapon. This capability enhances situational awareness, efficiency and safety, providing a critical edge in modern combat scenarios. Originally developed and tested in collaboration with the Australian Army and U.S. Marine Corps, RACU has proven its value on the battlefield and is currently in use by Ukrainian forces engaged in active conflict. The contract is a direct success story stemming from a 47G delegation trip to Ukraine in 2023, where Kord was able to showcase its RACU technology to key defense officials and military leaders.

Utah plays a pivotal role in Kord’s expansion and production strategy. The company’s U.S. headquarters and production facility in Ogden, Utah, will lead the manufacturing efforts for RACU, working in partnership with a range of local industries. This initiative will not only create high-skilled jobs but also reinforce Utah’s position as a hub for cutting-edge defense technology and innovation.

“Utah has been an exceptional partner for Kord, providing a business-friendly environment and access to a talented workforce,” said Dr. Moran, CEO of Kord. “While this technology originated in Australia, its manufacturing and deployment in the U.S. highlight the strong collaborative ties between our nations and the vital role Utah plays in supporting U.S. military operations.”

Kord has received strong backing from the U.S. government, with congressional support for rapid procurement through the National Defense Authorization Act (2019-2023). In 2023, $20 million was authorized for operational evaluation, with an additional $5 million appropriated in the 2024 budget by the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee.

“Utah’s aerospace & defense industry has successfully sold over $100 million in defense products to Ukraine and Kord is the most recent example of this.  Our team at 47G aims to accelerate growth for companies throughout networks, services, and programs.”

Beyond its military applications, Kord’s RACU technology holds significant promise for commercial markets, with the potential to improve safety and efficiency in a variety of industries. The company has already begun exploring opportunities in the law enforcement and outdoor sports sectors, where the hands-free, eyes-on control capabilities of the RACU could provide substantial benefits. For example, Utah Highway Patrol’s SWAT team has been involved in beta testing the technology, highlighting its life-saving potential for first responders.

As Kord continues to expand in Utah, the company remains dedicated to driving innovation that benefits both military and civilian sectors. By fostering partnerships and investing in local talent, Kord is not only strengthening national security but also contributing to the state’s economic growth and technological leadership. With its deep commitment to both defense and commercial advancements, Kord is poised to shape the future of hands-free control technology on a global scale.
