In the mid 1990s Damian worked in the field of AI and Expert Systems in the UK, developing intelligent diagnostic tools for Rolls Royce Aero Engines, Bristol. As a software developer he became involved in a breakthrough technology -Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) used in the field of materials characterization. Together with a group of material scientists and business entrepreneurs they secured VC
funding and formed a nanotechnology startup company "TSL Inc." in Utah, USA, based around the development of the first commercial EBSD software tool and product line.
Later acquired by EDAX Inc. and eventually Ametek, Damian became software engineering manager for both
the TSL software development group in Utah and the EDAX development group in NJ, traveling to Europe and
Asia to capture technological business requirements for those regions.
In the Spring of 2011 Damian moved on to form BLG-Vantage, partnering with BLG Productions UK to develop the world’s first commercially available High Resolution EBSD application “CrossCourt4" CrossCourt4 is a software application developed to measure stress and strain at sensitivity levels extremely difficult to attain previously. Customers include Pratt and Whitney, Rolls Royce Aero Engines, NIST, NASA, EDF and Apple.
